Section 1: Key Takeaways
- Simply put, Discovery Summits are about bringing curious people together in a comfortable environment where they can talk about statistical concepts, data visualization, innovation in processes and product manufacturing, and benchmarking analytic best practices in business.
- These conferences are world-class in execution. The JMP global events team heads up the series, but regionally appropriate members of Field Marketing also help plan and staff the event. Employees from across the division will be asked to support as needed and as appropriate.
- These conferences are world-class in content. Each Discovery Summit features paper and poster presentations by JMP users, thought-provoking plenary talks, opportunities to query JMP experts, and time for building networks and relationships. Our partners often have a presence at Discovery Summits. Users must submit abstracts to have papers and posters considered; note that deadlines are real.
- Discovery Summits should be seen as the ultimate "Customer Care" events. Attendees enjoy access to top developers, division decision makers, other power users, and literally the people who write the books about analytics.
- We currently run four Discovery Summits annually: Discovery Summit Europe, Discovery Summit China, Discovery Summit Japan and Discovery Summit 201X in the Americas that attracts an international audience.
- Each Discovery Summit has a Steering Committee that helps select papers and guide event decisions. These external influences help ensure that these events remain top-notch. We accept nominations for future Steering Committees.
- We invest a lot of resources into these events, as they are the living, breathing version of the JMP brand. The tag line is "Exploring data, inspiring innovation."
- We charge a minimal fee for each event (it's just too good to give it away). However, most Discovery Summits have discounted rates for JMP users, students and other groups. We also have a few complimentary need-based passes for each event.
- Discovery Summits have been selling out recently, which means that some people will be turned away. Because every Discovery Summit seat is precious, we want the most strategic people to attend. Marketing and Sales should invite at-risk customers, organizations poised for growth, prospects you really want to impress and opportunities for cross-sell and up-sell.
- Pre- and post-conference training opportunities are usually run by SAS Training, but certainly endorsed and recommended by JMP.

Section 3: High-Level Process Steps
- Be able to talk with customers and prospects about what's happening in the series...
- Know when a call for papers is open
- Know when registration is open
- Know when to tell strategic accounts and important prospects to take action
- Request to attend a regionally appropriate Discovery Summit
- We think all JMP employees should attend at least one Discovery Summit to see what it's all about. If you'd like to attend one, inquire with your manager or with Diana Levey.
- Submit a paper or poster abstract
- Some of the best Discovery Summit talks are by JMP staff members. If you have an idea for a paper or poster, you may submit it during the call for papers.
