13 June: Realising the Promise of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Data Mining and Industry 4.0 in Science and Engineering
The event will be held in the Milan SAS office and live-streamed in English to all Europe.
Speakers: Massimo Martucci and Robert Anderson
In this seminar, the speakers will use industry case studies to discuss potential problems in exploiting newer methods of learning from bigger data. They will demonstrate the need to integrate an understanding of data limitations with methods that address those limitations, in combination with subject matter expertise. And they will explore solutions to help avoid “red herrings,” wasted time and money, or misplaced opportunity as practitioners chase the wrong answer.

Partner Webinars
June 5 - Statistics, Data Science and Experimental Design in Engineering Curricula
JMP live webinar in partnership with SEFI, featuring Peter Goos, KU Leuven
https://www.jmp.com/en_gb/events/live-webcasts/explorers/alliance-webcast-05jun2019.html
Advanced usage of data is a key element in the execution of BASF's digitalization strategy. During this webcast, Elie Maricau will use an example project to illustrate some of the key challenges and opportunities when building a data driven organisation. Historically, decisions were based on data each operator collected individually. In many cases, operators used different data, interpreted the data in a different way or were not aware of data quality issues. As a result, the overall yield of the installation varied and was not always optimal. A cross-functional project team resulted in operators now making aligned decisions based on information from the same high-quality data, leading to significantly improved yields.
In this session you will see how:
- To overcome the key challenges faced when implementing a data-driven approach to problem solving.
- To align the way of working across operators to maximize results.
- To use data to unite different stakeholders and setup an aligned strategy for optimal plant performance.

June 25 I ChemE Webinar | TATA - I’ll send out the url v.soon
“Optimization of the development cycle for new products is a challenge in the chemical industry. Steel, which in many ways is analogous to chemicals, is produced using a long chain of interdependent process steps. Consequently, large volumes of experiments are required to fully explore process parameter relations. This is more critical for new, highly differentiated products for which understanding of the underlying physical principles is incomplete and thus a-priori exclusion of factors not possible. In this context, the use of statistical Design of Experiments (DOE) to shorten development timescale, maximize the output of experimental capacity and minimize material consumption is essential.
In this session you will see how
- The response of a complex steel product to critical process parameters was determined.
- The experimental design enables screening for significant variables.
- DOE methodology leads to a significantly reduced number of experiments, decreasing the burden faced by R&D and allowing more products to be brought to market faster at less cost.”
Trial Videos available in several languages
There have been requests to make the videos that are available in the JMP 14 trial to also be more sharable outside the product – to be used as a post-trial follow-up/reminder and for users who are trying to familiarize themselves with the basics of JMP. Marketing created a new page that houses all 7 videos and all 7 step by step guides in one link:

WHAT’S SOCIAL
See the links for the Time to Innovate campaign on top of this newsletter. In addition, do check VoiceStorm and the Weekly Sales Update for content.
June is all about a new campaign:
The JMP Paper Helicopter Challenge
http://jmp.com/helicopter
Experiment with paper helicopters and win a drone. Not you, that is, because SAS employees can’t win. But we are challenging the readers of Chemistry World (RCS) , CHEManager and CHIMEA (Swiss Chemical Society) to join the fun and learn about Design of Experiments in the process. We also promote this campaign heavily through social media, so do like and share what you find with #jmphelicopter and feel free you play and share yourself.
Sales teams in Europe will receive print copies of the helicopter challenge to distribute during customer meetings. Deadline to enter the competition is July 12.
