I ran across this nice blog post from a colleague on the SAS side (shout out to @ChrisHemedinger) and it occurred to me that we could do Harvey Balls in JMP with Value Labels, and if it's good enough for SAS users, it's good enough for JMP users.
Anyone want to write a blog post for JMPer Cable on how do to them in JMP? Let me and @arati_mejdal know and we'll get you on the right track.
This is interesting... when you use the text in a textbox and then scale it, it comes out ok. Still not a value label, but it looks much better than the mis-sized text, wihtout BLOB-bloated image code.
For example...
New Table( "Untitled 178",
Add Rows( 1000 ),
Set Cell Height( 83 ),
New Column( "Percent",
Numeric,
"Continuous",
Format( "Best", 12 ),
Formula( Random Uniform() ),
Set Display Width( 118 )
),
New Column( "Ball",
Expression,
"None",
Formula(
HB = Words( "○,◔,◑,◕,●", "," );
txt = Text Box(
HB[Floor( Min( :Percent * 4, 4 ) ) + 1],
<<SET font="" size=""></SET>I should elaborate--
I asked if it was text because I wanted to do it with value labels... an epression column (or virtual join to a lookup table with an expression column) is my guess as to how most people would actually implement something like this. So I was wondering which way you did it.
If you did it with Value Labels and text, which font did you use? As you can see, the font I used didn't scale the circles uniformly. (If you created your own font, I don't care if nobody else will do it, that's pretty cool!)
It's a shame you can't make text a little bigger in a single table column. You could use value labels and not have to use a report at all.
