I like the categorization in the drop-down menu. I'm not sure if this is just for your mockup or this is the intended visual treatment (colors, backgrounds, fonts, etc.) of the drop-down, but I would like to see consistent treatment of the contents of the drop-down menus.
Thanks John. I just emailed a word doc flow chart that has the same categorization we can work from.
As far as the "look" in what was posted above, just ideas, so far. Handwriting font suggesting community is a more relaxed post purchase environment.
Stan and I were also thinking, it might be nice to incoporate the red triangle in the in community drop downs??
Regarding the structure, we should also account for the Blog(s).
While I understand the desire to give the User Community a unique look, there are other ways of accomplishing this without changing fonts in the drop-downs (which would be visible across all of JMP.com). The fonts that we use online and in our other marketing materials are part of the visual brand. This doesn't even start to consider the technical feasibility of licensing the web font.
I'm including a few mockups that I've developed, using your drop-down content structure but holding the design closer to that of JMP.com. As I've said before, I feel very strongly about having a unified, consistent navigational experience across the different JMP sites, at a minimum in the drop-down menus. This will be particularly important as we start to develop the blog on the Lithium platform (which seems to be the direction we're heading) as well as considering users who wind up on one of the sites via Google or other organic search. The top navigation helps to "ground" the user and find their way to the content for which they are looking before they get frustrated and bail.
Images - sorry for the excess white space, but I forgot to crop before saving.
