JSL Timer for Auto RunningHello Everyone
Is there Auto Running Timer function in JSL ?
How we make with JSL to run some function automatically on specified time ?
Re: JSL Timer for Auto RunningThanks Stan
I could communicate with our customer with your help.
Thanks again
Re: JSL Timer for Auto RunningI think we’re splitting between “can” and “should”. Can JMP do a scheduled task - sure, as Stan showed, there are several ways in and out of JMP. Should they do it - this depends on the details of the use case. Most of the time when I run into this question with customers - which does happen fairly often - it’s because they’re thinking about doing something that would probably violate the license agreement.
The way I’ve heard it summarized is that the user has to either be present during the running of or at least initiate the JSL themselves (i.e., if something is expected to run over night). Having something trigger an analysis or script on a perpetual basis or without user interaction is not allowed.
Stan, Is that an incorrect interpretation from what you’ve heard?

Re: JSL Timer for Auto RunningHi @IkjuShin,
@MikeD_Anderson mentioned SAS is much better at and designed for large scale production type deployments of non-interactive sessions.
JMP is best at interactive sessions. However, if the individual analyst is running the script(s) from their laptop/desktop, i.e., non-presentation mode then scheduling a repetitive task is allowed.Search the scripting index for examples of the Schedule function. This approach assumes JMP is open and active.
Names Default To Here( 1 );
Schedule(
10,
Beep();
Print( "Hello World!" );
);
They might also look at using a system option depending on host such as, Cron on Mac or on Windows the Windows task scheduler.
best,
Stan
Re: JSL Timer for Auto RunningYou don’t. In general this would fall under “batch processing” which is against the JMP license agreement. A discussion about batch processing is one of the places where we would start thinking about bringing in our SAS colleagues.
