Why Thumbnails? Youtube or any web video thumbnails can make a huge difference helping your video stand out from the crowd, or maybe logically organizing your video playlist, or adding visual consistency to a video series. And done right, they can also brand your video entire educational campaign. The key is to make the type legible enough (bigger) and add good contrast, (white on black). When it's viewed in it's smaller thumbnail gallery, it's essentially competing against other Stat software videos that are better today at screaming 'watch me. watch me".
Keep in mind that youtube does not let you add custom thumbnails until you are a verified channel user which essentially is verifying your cell number with your Google plus account.
Here are a few custom thumbnails concepts for JMP videos.
The file size (art-board in illustrator) is 1920 x 1080, the top title is 120pt, sub title A is 200pt, and sub-title B is 220pt. It's exported as a Max RGB JPEG and upload to YouTube.
Comment if you like one concept in particular. (Not to be shared externally)
