Does anybody have any scripts for doing an animated GIF export using a local data filter? Or is it possible? I've got a customer that would like to do something like this.
Thanks!
M
In version 13 we have done some work (at least on Windows) to support multiple-frame image formats, including TIFF and GIF. This includes support for writing a multi-frame GIF file. You do this in JSL the same way you would write a single framed GIF file:
img << saveImage (dir || filename || ".gif", gif);
where dir and filename are variables and img is a JSL image with multiple frames in it.
So (in theory) you could have a script that cycles through the data filter, saving each graph as a frame in an image, then you could write out the animated GIF image.
Easy way is to screen grab your interaction by using something like ScreenFlow and then use Gifrocket to gif-a-fy.
Kind of fun:
Thanks, Dan! That's definitely an option. I think what the customer was hoping for was something along the line of "save as animated gif..." I know that's not there, so I was thinking about something like saving each frame as an image and then using something like imageJ to compile the images into an animated GIF.
Well, as is sometimes the case, reality doesn't quite match theory! It almost works. I am looping through a data filter, saving off each frame. But I am only getting the final frame on the save. I do have a script that reads in a multi-frame GIF file, modifies each frame, and then writes out the new GIF and it does contain each frame so I know we can write multiple frames. What I am not sure about is how to create each frame in the GIF. I will explore this further and let you know.
I figured it out. I had forgotten about some of the new API that was added as part of the most recent work. BTW - Special thanks to John Schroedl for adding this support on the Windows host and documenting it so I could find it.
You can find the script on the File Exchange, in the JMP SE Community, Animated GIF with Local Data Filter.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for improvement.
