Chart Builder - One Chart Script BugHi All!
I think I've found in the Control Chart Builder. I am using the chart builder to create an Individual Value chart, but do not want to show the Moving Range chart that goes also with the I chart. There is an option in the Preferences for the chart builder platform to turn off "showing two Shewart charts". This option works fine when I generate the chart manually, but does not work when I re-run the script saved from that chart. Has anyone experienced this? Is it a bug with known fix?
I did find a workaround, but if someone has anything better I'd be interested to hear it, as my workaround still requires manual manipulation. My workaround is to remove the unwanted mR chart after it is generated by the script. This can be done when the Control Panel is turned on by dragging the Y-axis title of the mR chart to the left (back into the control panel). I am using Version 12.1.0.
Thanks. PS., I know it's best to keep the mR chart, but in this case I want to remove it.
Re: Chart Builder - One Chart Script BugInteresting you should mention the older control chart platform ... that brings up another topic ...
I need to adjust the number of points in rules 2 and 3. The older control chart platform does not allow me to adjust those numbers of points. My users want JMP to use the defaults in Minitab, which include 9 in a row for rule 2, not 8 in a row as the older platform is fixed to use.
As for rule 3 ... when we say "six points in a row increasing", does that mean six points increasing "from the previous point", so that the run would include 7 points counting the bottom point (this is the Minitab default)? The JMP default is to count the bottom point so that there are actually only five "increases" in the JMP rule 3 default. To mimic Minitab I have to set JMP rule 3 to 7 points.
Oh, and by the way, the JMP rule 3 default follows Nelson JQT 1984. I suppose it's a bit of a "tangled web!"
Re: Chart Builder - One Chart Script BugI'm using Chart Builder because I have to modify the run rules (e.g., I need to use 8 in a row for Rule 2). The older Control Chart platform does not allow me to change the run rules (e.g., Rule 2 is fixed at 9 in a row).
Otherwise the older platform works great!
Re: Chart Builder - One Chart Script BugJust another thought: What about the IR Chart in the older Control Chart platform? You can uncheck the mR chart in the dialog.
I'm surprised that "Remove Graph" isn't in 12. I could swear I was able to remove the mR chart with a right-click. Maybe try doing that in the y-axis box? In 13, right-clicking over that axis shows another menu option "Remove" that does the same thing.
Re: Chart Builder - One Chart Script Bugcwillden, thanks for your reply ...
I think it's a "Version 12" thing. I do not get an option to remove when I right click on the mR chart. JMP 12 is hard-coding the "Show Two Shewhar Charts( 0 )" statement in the script for me, and I have also manually added that line, but the script still does not work.
There are several other steps that Chart Builder does very nicely, so was hoping to avoid a "front-end" individuals chart, but that's looking like it may have to happen!
Cheers,
Paul
Re: Chart Builder - One Chart Script BugHi Paul,
I think an easier way to remove that mR chart is actually by right-clicking in the mR chart and selecting "Remove Graph." You can do that with the control panel open or closed, and the script will reliably reproduce the same graph.
As far as the bug with the preference, I'm not seeing that behaviour in JMP 13 ( I no longer have a version of JMP 12 I can test this with), but I do notice that the preference you selected is hard-coded into the script that JMP 13 produces:
Control Chart Builder(
Size( 522, 452 ),
Show Two Shewhart Charts( 0 ),
Show Control Panel( 0 ),
Show Capability( 0 ),
Variables( Y( :Abrasion ) ),
Chart( Points( Statistic( "Individual" ) ), Limits( Sigma( Moving Range ) ) )
)
If JMP 12 doesn't include that "Show Two Shewhart Charts( 0 )" line, I would guess you could manually insert it into your script and it would work. This is a guess. I'm basing that on the fact that JMP 12 has the preference, so the script command should work.
However, that's more work than the suggestion above using "Remove Graph" since you would have to insert that line into your script every time.
What's the long term need for a solution here? You could always script a front-end to make just the individuals chart if you need to do this repeatedly long term.
