Hello everyone,
I'm trying to perform averaging of the values in columns according to the time column.
I want to create tables of the average of the hourly and daily values.
Would appreciate help!
Thanks,
yedidya
I assume that you attempted to use your Hour column by it's self. To get the hourly average, you need to aggragate by Date and Hour. If you are creating your table using the Summary Platform, you need to include both Date and Hour columns in the Group selection.
Thanks for your response.
So I did and I was able to produce a table with a daily average. Now I'm trying to generate an hourly hour associated with the day.
The way you suggested does not address this.
I am assuming that your column called TimeString, is a character column. So the first thing you need to do is to either convert that column to numeric, or copy that column to a new column and convert it to a numeric DateTime column. To convert the column, simply
Open the Column Info dialog box for the column you need to convert
Change the Data Type from character to numeric
Change the Modeling Type to Continuous
Click on the Format down arrow and select the Time format of m/d/y h:m:s
Click Apply
Now that you have your TimeString column as a numeric column, you can either create new columns in your data table called Date , using the formula
date(:timestring)
and an Hour column using the formula
hour(:timestring)
In both cases, the reference to :timestring is referring to either the TimeString column converted to a numeric Date/Time column, or to whatever the name is for the converted column
Now using
Tables==>Summary
You can create the summary tables that you are looking for.
Or, you can go to
Analyze==>Tablulate
and generate the report table using the Tabulate platform
