Placing a specified column's values into a list

I would like to know how to place column values from a specifed column into a list.

 

Imaging something like

 

listofvaluesincolumnrats = List( Column Values( dt, :rats ) );

Frustrating because I feel this should be elementary but I cannot seem to find any documentation on how to do this with create a loop.

Did you figure out a way to get the values where it matches only some categories in the list? for example, get values for white rats vs. get values for brown rats?

never mind ... I think I figured it out:

listofvaluesincolumnrates = dt:rats << get values;
