New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThe Welcome Kit is designed to track what you've watched and the activities you've completed. However you may need to adjust your browser security settings if it does prompt you to resume your state when returning. You can access the Welcome Kit here. Safari, Chrome and IE 11 work well for caching and storing Kit progress without adjusting your local browser security settings.
Please share your ideas and suggestions.

Re: New User Welcome Kit Discussion @ryandewitt Regarding the Welcome Kit it's very helpful for me as a new user. I finished all the videos yesterday and planned to do exercises today. Can you please help me to get back to where I was? I'm using chrome and when I open the webpage like yesterday it is asking me to start over.

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionSo glad it was helpful- RyanRe: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThe new user welcome kit is a great way to learn about JMP. As a student intern, going through the training and completing the tasks has helped me get hands on with the product.
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThe New User Welcome Kit worked well for me! I enjoyed the simple yet effective pathway, along with the percentage complete addition!
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionSo glad you found the Kit helpful and really appreciate that feedback Dave. I'll make an adjustment to that Activity.
Let me know if you need help with any more training or finding a specific JMP YouTube video.

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionHey there!
I am adding this response as the closing exercise in the New User Welcome Kit.
The roadmap was extremely helpful, but I did encounter an issue with a sample data item.
In the Texas Precipitation sample excel file, the cells within the 2009 tab for the first three columns are merged cells while the heading in the season/month columns are not merged cells. This resulted in the column headings not aligning with the other tabs for the import until I saved off the sample file and "unmerged" the heading cells in the 2009 tab.
A simple issue, but I needed to manipulate the excel file in order to get through the exercise.
Overall, great training package.
Dave
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionI just updated the Kit, so if you've lost your browser cache, contact me for the access codes here on the Community. @Ryan_dewitt
Re: New User Welcome Kit Discussion<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />All great feedback and suggestions. I'll make some adjustments. Thank you.

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThe "transcript" tab does not provide an accurate transcription of what the voice on the video is saying. It's close, but there are additional words and phrases that are either not included in the voice, or are missing from the transcription. That may throw off users who are trying to follow along by reading. I prefer to learn by reading the transcript as I'm viewing a topic, as it helps re-enforce the concepts.

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionI'm a professional app developer, and I noticed there are a few rough edges getting started with the New Users Kit. For example, the upper-right corner has a "login" prompt, but that's greyed out. Yet the right side center of the screen has a prompt to log in? The roadmap is probably going to be the first place a new JMP user will look for on-line training, so it needs to be as clear as possible.

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThat's awesome to hear. Thanks for your feedback. Keep challenging yourself by exploring each JMP platform (like Fit Model) deeper and try Graph Builder with a variety of sample data, just dragging data in and starting over. It's fun!
Ryan
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThanks for the kind words, Ryan.
What I didn't realize when I initially followed the video was that it was showing me the way to the right answer but didn't show the complete steps so I can discover it on my own
And when I started with the NUWK, I couldn't stop. I finished it in one sitting. To this, I say wonderful use of gamification in making sure the learners are engaged all throughout.
Again, thanks and more power !

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionAgain, so glad you're enjoying the Road Map. There are several ways you can discover the Road Map answers. For new JMP users exploring or "getting lost" with other platforms is a very effective way to learn JMP comprehensively .
And I loved the way you used Local Data Filter with Tabulate. I'll consider adding that as an alternative solution.
Your gif was very cool, I'm impressed, keep on sharing feedback if you have it.
Ryan
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionHi. I had a hard time determining the correct answer when I followed the steps provided using the Graph Builder for the NUWK 11e_Practice.
Instead, I used the Tabulate platform with Local Data Filter.
This is an animated gif (3.8 mb) of the alternative solution I used for the NUWK 11e_Practice question:
Which of the top 10 scoring athletes threw the longest Javelin distance?
I also tried another approach using the Graph Builder platform, also with Local Data Filter (attachment).
Graph Builder is awesome !
Also, I'm new to JMP and I'm learning a lot from the NUWK roadmap. Thanks so much for this !
--------------------------------------------------
Update: gif screencast URL replaced with mean javelin variables (instead of max).
Manually Sorted by Javelin distance (Descending)

Top 10 athletes ranked by score. Then ranked by javelin distance.

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionUpdate - Working on Version 1.3 Kit estimated refresh 4/1- 5/1/16
Thanks for the feedback folks, if you have any more add to this thread please.
1.3 Upgrades
- Adding 3 new Excel Activities involving JMP Import Wizard File>Open>(.Excel files)
- Adding new Video “Closing and saving tables and reports” to First Launch
- Adding Downloaded PDF Activity Guide
- Adding Audio on/off to Splash screen or turn off
- Adding Summary Page after for each Section for section highlight
- Adding Closed Captions to videos English
- Swapping out graphics containing text for blank/icon graphics and layered text variables to prep for localization
- Adding "About JMP's Red Triangles" Video to First Launch Video 1
1.3 Minor Bug fixes/adjustments
- First Launch Activity -Table Summary. Calculating the mean of June PM in the Cholesterol data set doesn’t seem to follow from the instructions. ADD check the ‘include marginals’ box to get the desired answer.
- Data Prep - 1st Video (2a) Edit to end of video swapping out new screen capture for Mean (what audios describes) - (Currently Col Mean in the formula editor updating to to be just the function Mean)
- Graphs - Activity Video Adjustment - 1st Activity 4d - “Using Scatterplot matrix” - adjust video so it doesn’t cut off in the graph section, it doesn’t ask the question. And then the answer choice includes Oxy vs Sex but you can’t put sex on the graph.
- Predictive Analytics - Section 8 – video on fit y by x suggests extrapolation – but it would be better if it focuses on interpolation instead. Extrapolation can be done, but it is usually dangerous to do statistically, and can produce questionable results.
- Predictive Analytics - Section 8 - Video 8c - Update the Profiler Script to video – says run the fit model script but there isn’t one on this data.
- Predictive Analytics Adjust and re-place the sample data “The toy manufacturing data” – column names are different than the ones in the video. In the video the column is called daily production, but in the table it was widgets per day. And the column employees versus staff level. The table will match the video.
- JMP User Community - Adjust titles - activities currently labeled wrong. Activity 1 and 2 are reversed from their label.
- Module 2: Data First Activity (Cars, Selecting and excluding points): The voice over is too fast to follow and the video stops. This is okay if you will tell user that the complete dialog is given in the window to the right, not just the area below the video.
- Analyze - re-order videos - three videos should be reversed. At least put the control chart example last. First instruction video is not consistent with first activity video. Control charts vs summary statistics?
- Analyze - The activity 3 screen refers to cars data. There is a Cars data set and a Cars Physical data set. Specify Cars Physical which is what the activity uses.
- Graphs The audio for activity 3 is very difficult to hear. After watching other videos, I returned to this activity and the sound was found. The problem pops up now and then.
- Graph Builder Activity 2 requests points, smoother and bar. The choices for answers don’t include bar. If that's intentional, make it clear.
- Graph Builder Activity 3 uses data set Cars rather than Car.
- Best Practices Activity 3 audio is difficult to hear. If it is restarted, it sounds fine.
- Sharing: Journal Report Activity 1, Eliminate the word "Export" it's not in JMP even though that's what's happening. I couldn’t find Export, but got it to work as File --> Save As, then specify file type as HTML.
- Practice - Section 11b - Simplifying the activity for the titanic data set, the choice of answers is misleading. One answer is a combination of 2 columns which was the correct answer, but then other columns were broken into 2 answer option

Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThe Kit received a technical updated today, it was tested and functioned in Chrome*, IE 11*, and Safari*, however the Fire Fox support for .mp4 video is not optimal.
We do have a Flash version of the Kit that appears to be very compatible with Fire Fox. I'll post that alternative link here if that testing gets a green light.
Current Supported Browsers:
*Mac - Chrome (Version 44.0.2403.155 (64-bit))
*Mac - Safari (Version 8.0.5 (10600.5.17)
*PC - Version 44.0.2403.157 m
*PC - 11.0.9600.17959
On Nov 1st, 2015 the Kit will receive a content update with new activities and a few new videos.
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionUnfortuately, once loaded in Firefox, the first video got stuck in the loading phase. Closing the window and re-loading yielded the same result. I would really like to try this tutorial package but it seems overwhelmed by bugs and glitches at this point. Hopefully the update today will help fix some of the problems.
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionI tried loading the Welcome kit in Chrome, but the screen was blank, opening it in IE curiously yielded the same result.
It did load when I tried it in Firefox.
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThat's a browser compatibility issue Les, your answer is correct
That will be addressed in the Sept 1 update.
Please enter the code 10106 using the padlock icon in the bottom left to move on with that Analyze Section 3.
do not hesitate to contact me with anything ryandewitt
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionHi Ryan,
I'm also having trouble with the Welcome Kit section 3.1 activity. I get the right answer, but it won't accept it. It keeps saying incorrect when I enter 38.59. Could you help?
Thanks,
Les
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThanks for this great feedback Mike! We will include several of these updates in the Sept 1 technical update.
Ryan
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionRyan,
I like the Welcome Kit layout and concept. Here are a few thoughts I had while working through it. Hope they are helpful. Will be at Discovery 2015 and hope to meet you there.
JMP Starter Kit - Comments
General:
For instruction videos, it seems the pause button is not activated initially. You have to click the streaming bar to stop the video, or in some cases the orange back arrow, and then you can pause/play.
For activity videos, there is no pause??
Also, for activity videos, it took a while for me to realize that the dialog was provided on the right side of the screen. Listening through the activity and then performing the activity afterward by following the written dialog worked for me. If this is your intention, say so upfront.
Module 1: First Launch
Activity -Table Summary. Calculating the mean of JunePM in the Cholestrol data set doesn’t seem to follow from the instructions. I believe you need to check the ‘include marginals’ box to get the desired answer.
Module 2: Data
First Activity (Cars, Selecting and excluding points): The voice over is too fast to follow and the video stops. This is okay if you will tell user that the complete dialog is given in the window to the right, not just the area below the video.
Module 3: Analyze
It seems like the order of the three videos should be reversed. At least put the control chart example last. First instruction video is not consistent with first activity video. Control charts vs summary statistics?
The activity 3 screen refers to cars data. There is a Cars data set and a Cars Physical data set. Specify Cars Physical which is what the activity uses.
Module 4: Graphs
The audio for activity 3 is very difficult to hear. After watching other videos, I returned to this activity and the sound was found. The problem pops up now and then. Don’t know if it is a problem on your side or mine.
Module 5: Graph Builder
Activity 2 requests points, smoother and bar. The choices for answers don’t include bar. Is that intentional?
Activity 3 uses data set Cars rather than Car. I know, that’s picky!
Module 6: Best Practices
Activity 3 audio is difficult to hear. If it is restarted, it sounds fine.
Module 7: Journal Report
Activity 1, I couldn’t find Export, but got it to work as File --> Save As, then specify file type as HTML.
Review:
The second video illustrates the function of red triangles. This should be covered early.
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionThank you for your feedback, we have updates planned for the Kit including new videos and activities. The activity you may be referring to is in the 3rd section (Analyze : Activity 1) and we have an update planned that will address certain web browser incompatibilities with that, the correct answer in that version is 38.59. If you message me ryan.dewitt I'll provide you with the access code for that section. Thanks again for your feedback, we'll definitely use it to improve the Kit. If you are a new user I encourage you to finish the 30 activities and grab your certificate and let me know if you need any additional support.
Ryan D.
Re: New User Welcome Kit DiscussionI have been using JMP for a few months, mainly coding/scripting new applications in JSL. I have tried checking out the New User Kit to see if it would be helpful in a New JMP User training we give at our site. I had some trouble accessing the kit initially, and then once I started the videos, I had to start and stop them quite a bit to keep up with what the instructor was doing. After watching the analyze videos, I tried, unsuccessfully, to answer the first question for that topic. It was asking for the mean, two decimal points, I couldn't get the right answer, even though it was right in front of me on the screen. The only way to try again was to restart that short question video.
I like how the video is set up, overall, but I think it goes a little too fast for a beginning JMP'er and the fact that my answer wasn't right, even though it was, was very frustrating. Maybe after two or three attempts, give the correct answer and show where to find it?
