JMP9 : Tools issue

I have installed JMP9 and it appears that the selection tool (large plus sign), grabber, scroller, brush, lasso ect... are grayed out. Only tools that open are the help and arrow. I have opened tables and charts and I am not able to use the other tools. Anyone have any idea why?
