Augment Design_added runs not assigned to any of the existing blocksI am working on a Custom Design DoE with 16 runs, in two blocks of 8 runs. For increasing the number of runs I applied the Augment design, re-entered the response and factors and then I selected Augment as that was the only option I could click on.
At the bottom of the screen (Design generation) I increased the number to 18 and the new Table generated did include 18 runs in total. However, the two added runs were not assigned to any of the two blocks. The fields corresponding to the block are blank. In addition I realized that the number of blocks increased from 2 to 3 when I increased the number of runs.
Could I go ahead and assign the block of each added run manualy? The two added runs appear to be replicates of already existing runs (and that was what I was targeting to do) except for they do not belong to any block.
Thanks for you help
Re: Augment Design_added runs not assigned to any of the existing blocksThanks for helping!
Re: Augment Design_added runs not assigned to any of the existing blocksThank you very much. The answer is very clear and helpful.
Initially I tried to go back to Custom Design as you suggest and add the runs replicates. However, I never managed to get back to my initial DoE when clicking on the DoE dialog. It must be that the Set Random seed and number of starts do not much anymore with what I initially had. Unfortunately I had not saved the Custom design script and I cannot find out anymore what those numbers are.
I will probably assign the added runs to one of the two blocks I have.
Re: Augment Design_added runs not assigned to any of the existing blocksHi @maba,
If no runs have been executed yet, I would go back to the Custom Design dialog and add them there. You can coerce some replicated runs into your design using the "Number of Replicate Runs" input in the Design Generation section. Note, this does not replicate your entire design. It just says, "I need 'x' runs to be replicated" and the algorithm will choose the replicated runs optimally.
If you want to hand select which runs are replicated (or use the ones you got from Augment Design), then there is no issue with just assigning them to blocks 1 or 2. You can use Evaluate Design and try different allocations of those 2 runs into the blocks to make sure you do so optimally. However, it probably doesn't matter all that much which blocks they go to.
Re: Augment Design_added runs not assigned to any of the existing blocksIt sounds like your blocking factor has a fixed effect, in which case, you can just assign these additional runs to the first two blocks.
Re: Augment Design_added runs not assigned to any of the existing blocksHello,
thank you very much for your help. In fact the third block was automatically created when I increased the number of runs to 18. In practice I cannot consider a 3rd block. My blocking factor can only have to levels.
My intention was initially to add two replicate runs to an alredy existing DoE with 16 runs. I chose to do it by Augment Design. The two added runs are indeed replicates of two other runs regarding the rest of the factors but the blocking factor remains blank.
Any idea how I could add two replicate runs to my existing DoE?
Re: Augment Design_added runs not assigned to any of the existing blocksHi @maba,
It should not be a problem to just create a new block for these 2 runs manually. In any case, you can always check the design properties using Evaluate Design to make sure you haven't done anything crazy before you go off and actually run the design.
It sounds like you haven't started executing the original set of 16 runs yet, so I'm wondering if there is value in having a 3rd block for your 2 extra runs. Is there a constraint limiting your block size to 8 instead of 9? I'm sure you have a good reason for your approach, I just thought I'd ask.
