WebEx Connection/Launch Issues at a Customer Site FMEA?

I'm launching a personal mini Failure Modes Effects Analysis with this thread...on July 8 I was facilitating a JMP Day at a customer site and we chose to access WebEx (me hosting via SAS interface) for remote participants. I connected to the internet via the customer's guest internet access path. I could get into SSW and launch the WebEx application fine, start the meeting and then the WebEx application just hung on the "Don't refresh your screen" window and the meeting never fully started so I could host/share my desktop etc. Anybody else ever have this failure mode? I'm thinking some mystical interaction between the WebEx application and the customer's guest internet access path prevented me from fully starting the meeting? Later that same night, at my hotel I was able to fully launch a WebEx meeting without incident.

I do have this same issue with Government guest networks.  Some allow me to run SAS webex and some do not.  Wifi is sometimes a viable backup, but many Department of Defense (DoD) sites take phones away.  In some cases I have to use their machine with a DVD of all my own content as I cannot use my computer at all.

I have to say that I like Martin's suggestion of someone else launching the webex "externally" and you just trying to join and be handed presenter privileges. This is essentially what happens when I am remote and want to do a webex for DoD customers.  My DoD sites use a government version of Adobe Connect that is initiated by them and I login as a Guest and am handed presenter privileges.

Hi Peter,

Martin is correct.  I had a similar experience to you using a guest wireless network when I was hosting a meeting.  The WebEx on a guest network worked great when Gail hosted from North Carolina and handed over presenting role.

Hi Peter,

this most likely is due to the secure Login to SAS for Webex. Even you use the guest login to access internet, they often prevent accessing other secure logins to use other applications, especially when they open up new windows and other things.

Just an idea:

What might work is someone from outside will start the wbex and you just use the link to participate. Therefore you do not have to log in to SAS and the presenter rights could be Hand over to you. (yes additional organisational work, but could do it).
