JMP's Table Open Method

When I open a 47GB JMP table the jmp.exe process allocates 2.5x, or 122GB, of memory. One might expect JMP's memory footprint to be closer to the file's size when opening the file.

What is JMP doing while opening the file that requires so much additional memory?

You are half right, Jim. It is a JMP table containing floating point data.

My guess is that your Excel file has a lot of numeric data, which JMP stores as double precision floating point values.
