For those of you who use Outlook for Mac or Apple Mail for your email, you may be interested in an app that's available—Maildrop—to help get your activities into Salesforce.com. (There’s a well-known Outlook plug-in for the same thing, but it works only with Outlook for Windows.) You can download it here: https://appexchange.salesforce.com/listingDetail?listingId=a0N300000016b7rEAA.
A few hints on getting it setup right:
- You likely will need to reset your security token. (Click your name at the top of the Salesforce window in a web browser > Setup > Personal Setup > My Personal Information > Reset your security token.) Maildrop will use your password+security token combination to logon. I use a password manager to do that, since I can’t remember my password, let alone the security token.
- When you’re in the Add Email window, right click on the list box under “Related to What.” In the resulting window, add Territory to the Additional Field of both Account and Opportunity. You then will see the Territory along with the Account and/or Opportunity, so you can be sure to choose the right one when adding your email.
- After setting up Maildrop to work with either Apple Mail or Outlook by toggling the icon in the toolbar, right click on the toolbar, and select Customize Toolbar. Remove Toggle and Add Case (we don’t use cases).
