Overlay Plot Troubleshooting: How to recreate an Excel plot in JMP 13
Hi community,
I am new to JMP. I have a simple data set that compares various samples taken one way against the same sample analyzed another way. I wish to compare these. The data taken are elemental concentrations fpr each specimen.
I have attached an excel sheet with the data and the plots I wish to recreate in JMP. I have been unsuccesful in recreating them in JMP and am looking for tips or instructions.
Thank you,
-Lucas
Re: Overlay Plot Troubleshooting: How to recreate an Excel plot in JMP 13Thank you very much. I am running through the procedures now.Re: Overlay Plot Troubleshooting: How to recreate an Excel plot in JMP 13Looks like I took to long to draft my response. At least you got consistent advice!
Re: Overlay Plot Troubleshooting: How to recreate an Excel plot in JMP 13Hi @LucasRMJohnson,
There's lot of ways to do this, but I'll show you one. Assuming you only wanted to show the "LN28-1-3" methods, you can get a graph like this:
I'll tell you how I did this:
1. Reformat your data into a long format by stacking (Tables > Stack. Select all the columns except Specimen to be stacked. "Data" and "Label" are the default resulting column names, but you can change those to whatever you want.
2. Open Graph Builder. Put the Data column in the Y drop zone, the Label column in the X drop zone, and Specimen into the Overlay drop zone. Select the "Line" option (looks like a jagged line) from the graph options along the top. You can also plot the points if you hold ctrl to make multiple selections. You should see something like this:
3. Now, assuming you only want to show LN28-1-3 YF for both the cup and pellet methods, you can do restrict this a couple ways.
- Add a local data filter. Click the red arrow icon next to "Graph Builder" title, then select "Local Data Filter." It's the third option from the bottom. Select "Specimen", then click "Add." You can select whichever levels you want to plot.
- Alternatively, hide and exclude every row in your stacked data table that is not LN28-1-3 YF cup or pellet.
4. The data points are jittered by default if you're plotting the points. You can turn that off by right-clicking inside the graph > Points > Jitter.
Re: Overlay Plot Troubleshooting: How to recreate an Excel plot in JMP 13Thank you Jim! I will give this a try later today and reply as "Accept as Solution." I did not try the "stack" option.Re: Overlay Plot Troubleshooting: How to recreate an Excel plot in JMP 13Here is the graph in JMP
To do this, I stacked your data
Tables==>Stack
and then used
Graph==>Graph Builder
where I used the column called Label from the stacked data table, as the X axis, and the column called Data as the Y column. I right clicked on the graph and changed the points to Line, and then overlayed the Specimen. I added a Local Data Filter to allow you to change the Specimens to be graphed
