Which version of JMP should I run for customer-facing demos? As a general rule, SE staff should run the latest production version of JMP for all customer-facing demos. The latest production version installer of JMP is available on the SAS Employee Download page. There are several reasons why this is a best practice:
- Truth in advertising: Let's show customers what they can actually buy, and we can deliver right now.
- Promising what we can deliver: If something is fixed in a maintenance release, which is not available, the customer may run into an issue doing what they were shown, causing a potentially customer service issue and/or hurt our brand.
- No roadblocks, which can slow down the sales cycle: Showing customers (especially in a pre-sales situation) software, which is not going to be delivered for several months quickly can get you into "excuse matrix" territory, where the customer says they will just buy in several months’ time, when the new version is available.
- If for some reason your sale depends solely on a feature or function that is not being delivered until the next version of JMP, revisit the opportunity when the next version is available and in production.
That being said, there are several valid business reasons where you would need to run pre-production versions of the software:
- If you are interested in participating in the early adopter (EA) program, you can sign up at jmp.com/earlyadopter. Please do so only after checking with your manager. Participating in the early adopter program will let you have access to Beta installers of the next version of JMP available for download at jmp.com/earlyadopter. All problems encountered in an EA version of JMP should be reported via email to jmpbeta@jmp.com. If you have check for updates on in your preferences, you will be notified when new versions of the software are available for download. The early adopter version of JMP should not be used for customer demos. If your customer is interested and qualified for the EA program, please have them request access at jmp.com/earlyadopter.
- If you are presenting at an offical marketing or customer care event that necessitates you demonstrating a version of JMP that is not yet shipping (for example a JMP Roadshow event before the availability of the production download at the URL linked above), you can download a Depot build of the version of JMP at smb://jmpsrv01 or \\jmpsrv01. (dev/install/jmpXX/jmpXXXX/DepotMacPRO or DepotWinPro). This Depot build will be very close to the final production version.
Note: If you have Check for updates on in your JMP preferences, you will automatically be notified when a new .1 or .2 is available for download (or a new EA version).
