Here’s a brief update on the status of the STIPS course development and the certification.
Course Development:
Our current focus is Module 2, Exploratory Data Analysis (although we’re developing content for other modules in parallel). EDA is our longest module, totaling between 6 and 7 hours. It’s a bit longer than the other modules because it includes some topics that otherwise didn’t have a home (probability, data prep,…).
Rather than waiting until all of the content for EDA has been produced, we’ve decided to release the first three lessons on Thursday, Jan 17 (if all goes as planned).
These lessons are:
2.1 Describing Data (graphical displays, measures of centering and spread,…)
2.2 Probability Concepts (core stuff – normal distribution, sample vs population, statistics vs parameters, Central Limit Theorem)
2.3 Exploratory Data Analysis for Problem Solving (more advanced/multivariate visualizations)
We’re hoping to have the other three lessons for EDA released by early February. These three lessons are:
2.4 Communicating with Data
2.5 Saving and Sharing Results
2.6 Data Preparation for Analysis
The next module we’ll release is Module 4, Decision Making with Data (intervals, testing, sample size). This should be some time in March if all goes well. We’re estimating that the entire course should be live in the June/July time-frame.
STIPS Certification:
The exam has been developed, and we’ve conducted alpha testing (thanks to everyone who participated).
We’ll be making a few tweaks based on feedback/suggestions, but the exam is in good shape. We’ve had solid demand for the exam, so rather than waiting until the entire course is released, we’ll conduct beta testing at JMP Discovery Copenhagen. The exam will be offered on sight, free of charge, on Tuesday, March 12 (before the conference). Folks can also take the JSL and DOE certification exams during this time, but these will be for a small fee.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. And, please help to spread the word!
Thanks!
Mia
PS - Thanks to all of you who have had a hand in the development of the course and the certification! We’re getting there!
